Hi, everyone. My name is Orren, which is pronounced Or-ren. I am working on my associate of arts, and I'm hoping to get my bachelor's in history as well. For hobbies, I like playing games online with friends/family, studying Japanese, studying history, and learning. I enjoy watching documentaries about random obscure facts. As far as music goes for this music class, I enjoy most kinds of music. I come from a very musical family where everyone knows or used to know how to play at least one instrument. I don't typically listen to music as much as I used to, but that may change with this class. One thing I'm really hoping for is that everyone will post super interesting music that I can add to my library and listen to as well. I look forward to reading your blogs.

As far as pictures I thought I'd post this picture I took outside of my old house in the fall at sunset. Its got this rustic beauty to it, with the color of the sky being the same as the color of the leaves. I thought when I saw this how much beauty there is in the world all around us that we often miss or take for granted. And this beauty is ever-changing like the seasons. It's a simple picture; with its muddy road that I often hated because my car was constantly stuck. Now I miss it.

I have always enjoyed music. Ever since I was a kid I loved listening to it and singing it in the car. When I was in elementary and middle school I played the violin. I remember not being too bad at it. I have not played the violin in a while but I like to think my early exposure to music is why I'm so interested in other languages. Maybe after school, I'll find time to get back into it. For now, I like to occasionally listen to music. Usually, I'm too busy listening to audiobooks for classes, but once a day or so I like to relax and play something.

For music, I hope everyone will enjoy Caravan Palace- rock it for me. The song is super catchy and the video is very good. The ending also fits this class perfectly.

  1. I love Electro Swing music and I have a Caravan Palace tune on my running playlist. I heard about them from a student in this class - quite a few years ago. You will be introduced to an incredible range of music in this class, if this semester is like a typical semester.

  2. Hi Orren, Really great post. I love your photo. It captures the Fairbanks fall so well and the rural beauty of it. I had never really heard much music in this genre. I would describe it as electro swing or an upbeat, poppy, swing jazz.

  3. It's cool that you are getting an associates in art! My hobby in art focuses on drawing cause it helps me visualize the characters that I write in my stories. I think that it is cool that the music video you added to this post also uses art and animation. Thank you for sharing!

  4. Hi Orren! I must say I have to give mad props to anyone willing to take on learning a new language. I took Elementary Spanish 1 last spring and it was definitely not an easy class. I ended up passing the class with a B however, I greatly struggled. I also played violin in middle and high school. I wasn't terrible at it but definitely not the greatest. My eleven year old currently plays it and has for two years now. It's incredible as a parent to watch as they grow into the same interests as you. She has improved SO much since she first started. Good luck with all of your classes this semester!
